A month ago I dyed my hair with a color that I just recently discovered existed! I got it from a local beauty supplier for less than a hundred bucks. Not sure what the brand is or its history, reliability, and overall quality. The packaging itself has a typo! Goodness gracious! The grammar nazi in me was furious!!! But sticking to my NY resolution that I will try new things so I did!


LIGHT MATTE BLONDE. Matte. Not Matt. *rolls eyes*


As I was mixing it, I can't help but think of it as mayonnaise. LOL. I used just a 9% developer since I thought I'd be kinder to my hurrrr... Tee hee. Anyways, say hello and goodbye to my ugly dark roots.


I left it on for a little over an hour just to make sure I get the dark roots colored. I was hoping my hair would turn ashy or something because during application, it looked pretty dark on my hair.


The hair dye didn't seem to change the color of my already bleached hair; however, it did manage to lighten my roots to a very nice light brown almost golden shade. Whew! Finally taking a break from all the bleaching!


I like how the color blended in with my bleached hair and sometimes in different lighting it makes my hair look even naturally blonde. Haha! I get so many questions from friends and even random strangers as to what color is my hair. ^_^ Also, I really think this color is perfect for summer.

 

And here's what it looks like after a month. Darker roots already coming out. Ugh.

I'll give it another 2 weeks and then maybe color it again with the same LIGHT MATTE BLONDE shade or perhaps if I can find some other shade that's a lil bit darker but still great for summer, I'll try that next. Do you have any suggestions on what other colors I should try? Let me know!

After the tragedy brought about by Yolanda, the idea of celebrating much more spending thousands for firecrackers is improbable. But come New Year's Eve, the kids and the people in my community, my neighborhood in Cantubo here in Ormoc City, have started making the age-old traditional noise maker/home-made cannon or bazooka called LANTAKA, made from all the canned goods we've been receiving as relief goods from many generous donors. And I'm telling you, this is exactly how those tin cans can be recycled and there's quite a lot of cans just lying around here.


Okay, first things first. You need the following:

• Canned goods/tin cans for recycling, i.e. sardines, tuna, corned beef, etc.
• Plastic bottle
• Packaging tape or electrical tape
• Cricket electronic lighter
• Tools (hammer, knife, nail, scissors, etc.)
• Alcohol or Flying Tiger fluid
• Optional: Toy gun for trigger
• Imagination and creativity

If done right, you'll get something like this:

The closest thing I'll ever own to a grenade launcher! HAHA! XD

A word of caution: DOH actually bans the use of a lantaka or boga as it is commonly referred to in Luzon as it carries a risk of blast or burn injury. However, personally, I think is way better than firecrackers where you risk losing a finger or two, or maybe a whole hand if you're not careful. it's up to the user to be informed on the proper use of a lantaka which is not a toy by any means. it is not meant to be used an actual cannon where it fires something. It's for noise-making purposes only.

Sorry I couldn't capture the "ACTUAL" (deafening) sound of the lantaka when fired. My phone, which I used to capture the videos, only has mono sound/mic I think. Whatever. It doesn't give the lantaka much justice. You'll have to see it for yourself in person to experience and hear the KABOOM!

It's really not that difficult to make one and if you grasp the notion on how it works, it's fairly easy to create different designs such as these:

Now truly excited for New Year's Eve! Not only did we get to recycle all those tin cans and save money from buying those dangerous firecrackers, we also got our community and neighborhood engaged in a sort of camaraderie to welcome 2014! I guess the more "urbanized" cities will have a normal NYE celebration but as for us here in the Yolanda-devastated province, we're just happy to be alive to welcome the New Year and most definitely this time with a LOUD BANG using our lantakas.

Yesterday I bought a new trash can. Or more accurately, Noodle Boy got me one.  HAHA! IKR?! Whatever for? Well, if you're like me who only gets motivated to do things when there's something new, getting a new trash can proved to be very effective in getting me to clean up the mess I made in our room preparing for all the DIY party decorations and other stuff from Little Mao's 1st birthday.

Since I was (and still am!) pretty much in the "cleaning" mood, I was inspired to make my own boxes and holders for all my other thingamajigs, more specifically, whatever make-up I still own and other beauty products that you'll find scattered all over our bedroom. Think "I Spy" when you find some. Oftentimes I forget I'm co-habitating with another person now (two to be exact, Noodle Boy and NoodleLito!) so I need to tidy up my stuff once in a while.

I don't have much in the way of organizers because I've never been a bag person or have been OC about organizing things. Never been, never will be I guess. So I had to make some improvements. I got an empty 400g can of Little Mao's milk and found a discarded piece of cardboard from the party.

With a quick template layout I made, I was able to turn these two things into what I now have as a make-up tray and a beauty product holder.

I used a regular tape but you can use double-sided tape or glue it for a more polished finish.

Ingenuous isn't it? Who knew cleaning a room makes one's creative juices flow?
