Beauty and the Brush(es): The Good, The Bad, and The Dirty + How To Make A Brush Cleaning Tablet

Tuesday, July 16, 2013

Hey, everyone! This is Beauty Major MyMaria reporting for duty. Wait, that's not right. Never mind. So anyway, I just ordered a bunch of Sigma brushes from the U.S.. Did you know that they ship internationally? Yes, I bet you already do. I'm still pretty green when it comes to beauty blogging so I'm sure most of you know a lot more than I do. Anyways, take a look at these babies... So excited to play with them!!!

I'm a bit sad (just a little bit!) because I ordered these before I could avail of their newest promo, which is a FREE Mini Sigma Spa™ Brush Cleaning Glove for orders above $30!

I guess it means I'll have to order more brushes then! Tee hee. So in the mean time, I made myself a DO-IT-YOURSELF brush tablet cleaner that I learned from SecretLifeOfABioNerd. Ahh, the things you learn online! This'll have to do before I get my own cleaning glove. I'll show you what I'm talking about.

You'll only need two things: A plastic clipboard and a glue gun.

The idea is to create the dots and wavy/zigzag lines similar to the $35 dual-sided glove from Sigma which offer a variety of necessary textures and surfaces to ensure that all makeup is removed from the brushes using just a little bit of cleaning solution.

The end result of my DIY project is really nothing like the original brush cleaning glove but I think it'll do for now... UNTIL I get my hands (literally) on the real ones.

I'm telling you this is not a masterpiece. If I were a Home Economics teacher, I'll probably give this only a 75 (or C+ ?) passing mark. LOL. Not the prettiest, but hey, look, it's FUNCTIONAL. I can clean my brushes faster! ;)

I just wonder for how long can I actually use this tool until all the glue on the clipboard falls off. And speaking of falling off, the handles/ferrules of 3 of my E.L.F. brushes, the ones I've been using like 4 x a week since March, are now disconnected broken off and I had to glue them back in. *sniffs* I guess you get what you pay for, huh? *sobs* Though I really love those synthetic brushes because they're really soft to the skin. It's a good thing that they haven't shed ever since I got them 4 months ago so yes, I'll continue using them.

Brushes I use almost everyday or every time I play with my makeup.
Okay, I know you're thinking that I should get a rack to dry my precious brushes, and yes, I have been considering to splurge on Sigma Beauty's Dry'n Shape for $32. After all, I should protect my investments. Am I right or am I right? :)

Yup, that's definitely going in my shopping cart. I'm so glad that Sigma ships to the Philippines for just a minimal cost (around $18 for 3 brushes or just Php 700+). They also accept MASTERCARD or VISA so that's a really good thing because I LOOOOOVE ONLINE SHOPPING. Don't you? It's just so convenient. And if you use this discount code when you purchase from Sigma, you even get 10% OFF!!!

And of course there's the FREE GIFT I mentioned earlier for orders above $30 which is currently a mini brush glove. Oh well, I guess I'll start saving up for brush care. I'll write my Sigma brush reviews in comparison to my E.L.F. and MAC brushes soon.

Until then! Hope you liked this post. Stay tuned...
