Blonde Ambition #3: Palty Hair Color in Sparkling Blonde Review

Tuesday, November 25, 2014

It feels like ages since I colored my hair radically so I decided to pick up the brightest color I could find at my local supermarket. And behold, I got Palty Hair Color in Sparkling Blonde for a little over Php 300. It's made in Japan, apparently imported but already in distribution here in the Philippines.

Honestly, I assumed this was like the super convenient and easy to apply Liese Prettia Bubble Hair in which basically you just shampoo it on your hair. But to my dismay, it was actually a regular hair dye PLUS BLEACH! Que horror! And here I thought I was going to give my hair a break from all the chemicals.

I don't read Japanese so I can't really comment on the ingredients, but it does include the blue bleach powder so I gather it's what's going to lighten my hair and turn it into blonde. Umm, okay. What have I got to lose, right? I've gone platinum already so we've pretty much covered the entire spectrum and stages of hair bleaching.

So yeah, you only have to mix the developer and bleach first. Then add in the color in the tube. Use the convenient applicator and of course, protect your hands with the gloves provided. I must say that the gloves are pretty nice! I mean, not just your ordinary cheap plastic glove but it's made of a more durable plastic that lessens the likelihood of tearing. And we certainly do not want that if we're working with bleach! I've had my fingers burned one too many times before.

Mixed and ready to use!
The applicator bottle has these comb-thingy so you don't need a separate brush to apply it on your hair. You just comb through it using the bottle and it even applies evenly to my surprise. The biggest issue I have though is the SMELL! And it was like OMGWTFBBQSAUCENOMAYO, definitely the worst smelling bleach I've ever tried in my entire life! Not that I've come across any sweet-smelling bleach ever. But the Palty mix was so strong I swear you could smell it from miles away!!! So make sure you do this in an open area where there's ample air circulation because not only does it smell so horribly, it seems to hurt my eyes, too, since they would water constantly. Ugh! Seriously, you don't want this thing in your eyes. Tiis ganda lang ang show! So then I wrapped my hair in the flimsy shower cap provided and left it for what seemed like 45 minutes(?), because I lost track of time really though I did keep checking on it to make sure I get the roots colored completely.

And so with no further ado, may I present to you the results.

I washed it off using the pink Palmolive shampoo+conditioner TWICE and then applied the supplied Palty hair conditioner last. My son was touching my hair afterwards as it was surprisingly very soft when suddenly he burst into a song, "Let it go! Let it go." Okay, we're not doing Elsa here, you know. But he seems to be associating it with the blonde hair.

My hair was all sorts of different shades before so I was pleasantly surprised that the color turned out even and actually as advertised and seen on the Palty box! I mean, how many hair dyes do you know that actually gives your hair the same shade as the one that's seen on the model?

Eat our heart out, Rapunzel!
It is pretty bright as expected of a Sparkling Blonde shade. I think it's a bit too yellow for my taste, though that was the idea to begin with. Now I'm thinking of maybe washing it with a toner to get it muted or something. Ah well, time will tell.  Maybe in a few days this sunshine on my head will look a little less daunting. Tee hee.
