Because I was not born to blend in, I was born to stand out!

As epic as the name of the lipstick is, it really is the most attention-grabbing of the bunch that I was able to grab from Sample Room. As you know, you can try out these lippies for free if you register on the site and use your points to "grab" samples and have them shipped to you for a minimal fee. Then review the product and get your points back so you can use them again (adding +1 to you existing points). Confused? Just go to the site and check it out yourself.


Anyways, moving into this review, HEADTURNER is a hot pink shade. For 30 years, I've never been overly fond of pink lips... or lipsticks in general. But when I decided to become a beauty blogger, I let go of my inhibitions and started wearing pink lipsticks. At first I was hesitant that it wouldn't complement my weird, uneven skintone. But boy, was I wrong. For about a year now, I find that I'm very drawn to bold and bright pink colors. Must be the subsconcious Barbie in me? Who knows.

Colour Collection Ultimate Wear Lipstick in Headturner is a flattering color that easily shows off your fun even flirty side even if you're not really that kind of gal during most days.  From Nicki Minaj to Emma Stone, it just shows ANYONE can pull off hot pink lips. I shouldn't be an exception because I think there's no hard or fast rule for wearing it.

Clearly among the 9 Colour Collection Ultimate Wear Lipsticks that I have in my lipstick army as of this post, HEADTURNER truly is my color because it reflects my personality the most. Why? Since I am an only child, I guess you could say I'm used to being the center of attention and attention-seeking perhaps comes naturally to me, not that I am exactly proud of it. (You'd think maybe it's because I'm an Aries?) But TBH, I really don't mind being in the spotlight. Not all the time though, but if there's a ship heading to bathe in the limelight, you can be sure that I'll be on that voyage before you could say, "Aye, Aye! Captain!" Heck, I'll probably be in first class or have my own suite, too!

I think there's a deeper explanation for my attitude, although I'm not trying to justify anything from my childhood, okay? I would just like to state that while growing up, my teachers trained us to be competitive and to rise and be the cream of the crop. I succeeded in overcoming any ounce of stage fright and during my academic life, I remember being the EMCEE or Master of Ceremonies countless times. And now that I've mentioned it, please allow me to say that I am actually feeling proud of that because it is an accomplishment for me. I've realized there are many who do struggle to speak in front of a crowd and have their voices be heard. My loud, sometimes boisterous, voice probably contributes largely as to why I am able to turn heads.


To make the long the story short, the Colour Collection Ultimate Wear Lipstick in Headturner is obviously a shade that best describes my personality. Not just the name of it but because in reality, it does cause people to double take and ask what lipstick you're wearing! I've never come across a more moisturizing, long-wearing, and very affordable lipstick that lives up to its name.

So for those of you who want to step outside your boundaries and try what it is like to be the center of attention (even if that's not your regular thing!), you can forego all other makeup and just swipe this hot pink shade on your lips and get ready to turn heads.

Depending on your lighting and camera settings, the color can turn into a lovely magenta.

And while we're at it, I have a few tips for ladies who are still wary of sporting this show-stopping pink color.

• As I mentioned above, go easy on your eye makeup if you want to wear the Colour Collection Ultimate Wear Lipstick in Headturner during the day. You can just simply line your eyes and skip the eyeshadow.
• You might want to skip the blush as well when wearing bright or hot pink lips. I recommend just a bit of highlighter and don't be heavy-handed. Contour, if you must. I know I do!
• Because summer is upon us, you have every excuse to wear this shade. Tee hee! 
• #YOLO! While you can, wear pink lipstick! Don't wait 'til you're 90 years old staring out the window on your wheelchair watching fun, fearless females with their bright pink lips and wonder why you never did it. Wouldn't you be the groovy lola when you show a #selfie to your grandkids wearing the Colour Collection Ultimate Wear Lipstick in Headturner and rocking it?
• Wear it and forget it! Do not be concious and don't worry about it. I found out that the Colour Collection Ultimate Wear Lipsticks give you 4-5 hours of wear time until you may need to re-apply but even if you don't, the wax may fade but it leaves a lovely stain on the lips. That's why I heart it a lot!!!

I've already done blog reviews for THE BLUES and THE GREENS, and naturally comes the last but not the least, THE METALLICS. This is another 8-in-1 palette consisting of various different colors that are frosted/satin/shimmer. They are mainly dark and pigmented colors which would be perfect for evening events.


As for swatches, you can see that they are pigmented enough but I suggest wearing a primer for a more intense eyeshadow color. From left to right (top to bottom), we have these shades: A peachy pink, a deep color somewhere between aquamarine and turquoise, a yellow gold, a periwinkle, a bronze, a maroon, a silver, and a dark gunmetal (almost black but not quite so) shade. Sorry, if I'm not too accurate of the color descriptions, but hey, I tried. Tee hee.


Like the other 8-in-1 palettes, this doesn't disappoint and it gives you more variety of shades. The only thing one might find lacking are the matte ones but then again, this palette won't be called THE METALLICS for nothing. Perhaps AVON might release a pure matte palette in the future and I'll be sure to get that one to add to my collection.

For my #FOTD, I picked Avon's Ultra Color lipstick in BERRY BRIGHT. They are very rich and you only need one or two swipes and you're all set. It's the same kind as the Hibiscus one I used in my Barbie/Princess makeup tutorial but this one's a deeper pink/fuschia shade.


I also used Avon's Glimmerstick lip liner in Pink Bouquet which makes lining lips easy because it's retractable. No more sharpening!


Additionally, I got to test out the new SUPER DRAMA mascara from Avon. The wand is pretty unique although the consistency of the mascara isn't what I hoped for. It's kind of "wet", I should say. I like my mascaras "dry".



My lashes are, as you might already know, the short and straight type and it takes a whole lot of curling and mascara to get it looking decent enough.


MYMARIA's MAKEUP HACK: What I do between mascara coats is dab some powder on the tips of my lashes so that the product has something to adhere to and I get longer looking lashes with more coating.

Have you seen my previous post about Avon's 8-in-1 palette in various shades of BLUE? Well, this one is a similar palette with mainly greens and neutral colors. I should say I love this palette more and that it somewhat reminds of me of my Urban Decay Naked palette though this comes with more shimmery eyeshadows.


For day makeup, it's very easy to create different looks with the 8-in-1 palette. Take a look at this fairly neutral combo of colors for a casual daytime look.


It's pigmented enough to wear during the day and I didn't need any eye primer. If you like all that shimmers and glitters, there's no reason why you shouldn't wear it when you want to. Mattes are actually preferred for daytime looks but if you wanna stand out and sparkle, why not, chocnut?

For a night about town, you've got plenty of options such as choosing the darker colors and blending that shiz out to create a decent smokey eyed look.


The look above was accomplished with the additional use of Avon's Eyeshadow Duet in Maize (Lemon Ice and Latte) serving as eyeshadow primer. It's quite creamy (and a bit oily) for my skin so I'd rather use it as a primer to make the powder eyeshadow colors pop some more! And boy, it didn't disappoint.

Also I picked Avon's Glimmersticks eyeliner in Galactic Green to line my eyes instead of my usual black liner... 'coz I'm sticking to my GREEN-EYED MONSTER theme. Tee hee. Although my eyes aren't near verde, I find that the different shades of green eyeshadows bring out the light brown color of los ojos. (Perdóname... sorry about throwing in some Spanish words around for I'm recently hooked on Duolingo! Add me please?!)

I only used three colors from the BLUES palette and I'm very happy with the result. There are still a lot of combinations I've got to try using these 8 lovely eyeshadows. I know it's quite tricky to use blue eyeshadows as one doesn't want to end up looking like a clown. However, the 8-in-1 eyeshadow palette contains very "blendable" powder eyeshadows so it's very easy to apply it and mix the colors all you like. Must experiment some more.


Swatched them at the back of my hand and it shows that the color payoff is good. I didn't even need to wear eyeshadow base and I'm loving the result. How much more if I used a primer to make the colors pop out some more?! The 8-in-1 eyeshadow palette also comes in METALLICS and GREENS. I'll do some more tutorials in the coming days so I can show you how absolutely adorable the colors are!

How time does fly, huh? I was so late in posting my October BDJ BOX unboxing as it is November already but oh well, better late than never! Also, I accepted the 7-day challenge and completed it a week ago so here's the blog post about it and my review on the products I've used to create the different looks using affordable Maybelline products.

DAY 1



For me... This BB STICK works best as a primer because of its texture and finish. I also find it great for under eyes for a brightening base/effect before putting on my concealer. And then there's this CHEEKY GLOW blush which gives a subtle finish, just enough for that flush of color on the cheeks.


DAY 2


Guess what Maybelline mascara is it that I'm wearing?


The mascara used in the post above is no other than THE FALSIES! Big fan of their Volum' Express over the years and this one here doesn't disappoint! Same great quality, holds curls, no clumps, and fairly lightweight on the eyes! So impressed and instantly opens up those pretty peepers! The mascara wand is flexible, too! It makes application very easy.

DAY 3


Here's a Saturday daytime look for lunch at the in-laws! Baby soft lips looking moisturized as ever with BABY LIPS RUNWAY BRIGHTS and a subtle #eotd with EYE STUDIO LUMINEYES SHADOW plus CHEEKY GLOW for that warm flush on the cheeks.

DAY 4


I wish I had smooth skin like before my adult acne started acting up but too bad my hormones are not cooperating much. So here's a quick fix with the BB STICK, BABY LIPS RUNWAY BRIGHTS, CHEEKY GLOW, and CLEAR SMOOTH SHINE-FREE FOUNDATION (non-comedogenic, yayyy!) for a 5-minute face trying to look decent enough without scaring the people because it was too early for Halloween.

DAY 5


Casual daytime look created with EYE STUDIO LUMINEYES SHADOW to brighten up sleepy tired eyes; paired with Maybelline COLORSENSATIONAL lipstick in Peachy Scene, 36h LASTING EYE STUDIO GEL LINER in black, and CHEEKY GLOW in Peachy Scene.

DAY 6


For beautiful eyes, look for the good. If you look for the good, that's what you'll see. Wearing THE FALSIES for that wide awake look, CHEEKY GLOW in Peachy Scene for a subtle flush, COLORSENSATIONAL lipstick in Make Me Pink, and EYE STUDIO 36h LASTING GEL LINER in black.

DAY 7

As a general rule, smokey eyes and nude lips go together. This makes the Colour Collection Vitamin E Sheer Lipstick in Pinkish Nude the perfect shade to complete a seriously sexy look. It's not pink as the name suggests but more of a coral shade.


I find that this lipstick with its sheer finish and formulation does moisturize my otherwise dry lips. I get bad chapped lips almost everyday if I don't use a lip balm. But even without lip balm, this Colour Collection Vitamin E Sheer Lipstick in Pinkish Nude makes my lips look smooth and gives it just the perfect amount of color to complete a glamorous face for a night on the town.

The only downside I found with this particular lipstick is perhaps it's too moisturizing that the first time I used it, I think I somehow broke it off. It wasn't cut into half yet so I'm going to refrigerate it to harden it or something. Maybe it was just too warm inside the package since this was delivered to me all the way from the capital because I ordered it from Sample Room. So it's either because of the heat or perhaps I applied it too aggressively on my lips since it's very sheer and I wanted to see some more color on my lips.

Swatches show that it's very sheer even at 3 x.

Yup, I definitely think that the Colour Collection Vitamin E Sheer Lipstick in Pinkish Nude will come very handy during those times you just want to go au naturel or with very minimal makeup. You won't even need a lip balm for this lipstick because it is hydrating, I tell you. It even made my dry lips look kissable enough. Tee hee.

As expected from sheer lipsticks, the color stayed long enough (2 hours max for me 'coz I keep munching bits and pieces of food every now and then). But for the price of only Php 330 for a full-sized 4g super moisturizing lipstick, it beats any tinted lip balm or gloss. It leaves the right amount of color for that natural looking lips and it is perfect for everyday wear. If sheer is not your thing, Tupperware's Colour Collection Vitamin E lipstick also comes in Satin and Matte finishes.
